Perception-warping production company Rêverie Content welcomes director Sylvie Weber to its growing and impressive roster of talent. Weber’s first short film, “The Prophetess”, won and traveled to several film festivals around the world. Since then, the acclaimed filmmaker has honed her highly imaginative storytelling style seamlessly across all formats, including documentaries, narrative fiction, music videos and commercials.
Being of German-Dominican descent, Weber’s own exploration of identity and belonging became a driving force behind his filmmaking, alongside his desire to unveil the character within. Steeped in poetic realism, Weber’s films delicately capture the force of human emotion while adding a magical twist to storytelling through film that challenges the viewer’s usual question mark.
A multifaceted filmmaker, Weber has directed music videos for bands The xx and Melanie C., fashion films for Aeyde and William Fan, and commercials for Nike and Lufthansa. Weber’s ability to bend genres has earned him articles in a range of international publications, such as Vogue, Rolling Stone, The Fader, The Los Angeles Times and The Creative Independent.
Weber’s 2018 debut short, ‘The Prophetess’, premiered at the International African Film Festival in Lagos and won awards around the world, including Best Documentary Short and Best Film Short. social awareness. The film is currently screening at the Los Angeles Filmforum through November 5. His short film “The Art of Value” circulated in international fashion film festivals in 2021, including the Milano Fashion Film Festival, the Canadian International Fashion Film Festival and the Bucharest Fashion Film Fest, where it won the award for best fashion movie. Presenting William Fan’s spring summer and autumn winter 2021 collection, the film questions the mechanisms of consumption and our systems of values and hyperbeauty.
