Elation lighting upgrade supports contemporary worship at Living Word Church
United States – When Living Word Church in Houston, Texas was struggling to maintain its sanctuary lighting system (in part due to issues with acquiring spare parts), it contacted Eric Bernstein of Lighting Ministries, who has Quickly reviewed the situation and prescribed an upgrade to the Elation stage lighting and home lighting fixtures.
“I know that all of the devices I have specified would need to be repaired and I wanted to assure the potential customer that these lights could be easily repaired if needed,” Bernstein said, alluding to the poor customer experience. with its previous AV integrator. “I chose to go with Elation for this job because I have been dealing with their after-sales service since 1992 and have a personal relationship with several of their key employees. I know we or any of their dealers and / or service centers can easily obtain spare parts nationwide. “
Like so many other projects started before the pandemic, the lighting upgrade has experienced delays. The extra time, Covid’s months of adjustment in which live streaming has become a priority, has led to the realization that any design has to look as good on camera as it does live. After several on-site demonstrations, a lyre set of six Artist Van Gogh, six Smarty MAX, 12 Fuze Wash Z350 and four Fuze Profile CW was chosen for the impact of the stage lighting, while 20 Fuze Pendant wash lights LEDs provide a dynamic lighting solution for the home. . Bernstein and Lighting Ministries managed the design, specifications and installation of the new system.
Forgoing a suspended trellis platform, Bernstein installed support shelves in the background on which the Artist Van Gogh and Smarty MAX fixtures sit, resulting in a cleaner and more traditional look. He says choosing the Smarty MAX hybrid with its 4000 hour Platinum FLEX 400 lamp, 20,000 lumens of power and 160mm front aperture was a conscious decision in order to achieve a true beam look that only a lamp can produce while having the ability to instantly switch to a washed-out look creates a very versatile fixture.
Artist Van Gogh, moving LED wash heads with CMY / CTO color mixing and framing and Smarty MAX fixtures work with an atmospheric Magmatic Therma Tour 600 mist machine to create stunning visuals. The decision was also made to add color lighting to the baptistery in the form of ADJ WiFly bars, which add more depth to the platform without the extra bulk.
Mounted on support beams at the bottom of the stage and used as front lighting, Fuze Wash Z350 LED spotlights with roller shutters and Fuze Profile CW LED profile spotlights. Bernstein comments: “It is important that the programmer / operator can control the light and direct it accordingly. The use of a zoom, framing shutters and flaps go a long way in this, and the ability to control these functions greatly improves the look achieved and minimizes unnecessary light leakage.
According to Bernstein, Fuze full-spectrum LED pendant lights replaced 20 obsolete gas-discharge pendant lights, saving at least 65% energy, while providing a full color palette, temperature adjustment of color and a CRI greater than 90. The new system gives the church the ability to illuminate the entire sanctuary or highlight a specific area in any color or white color temperature at any time. “Color is an emotion,” says Bernstein, “and with Fuze pendants they can really make an impression. One inspiring look he describes is one where the pastor is highlighted in white light while the house and stage lights match in blue. “It’s a powerful look and the contrast is stark.”
Living Word’s dynamic new lighting has added vitality to their contemporary service, helping the ministry deliver their message live or via broadcast while allowing them to maintain a more traditional look when desired.
