The Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento is seeking artists to submit works for the upcoming art auction season.
This highly anticipated Sacramento tradition drew an audience of over 3 million viewers and more than 1,000 bidders from around the world last year. The event used both an in-person audience and a virtual platform in order to reach the widest possible audience.
Artists whose works are selected will be included in a special exhibition at Crocker which will be on view from May 26 to June 4. It will include a silent auction open to a global audience on Bidsquare as well as an in-person live auction. .
The artists’ work will also be featured in an art auction catalog that is expected to be distributed to more than 10,000 households. Artists can choose to keep 50% of the proceeds or can donate 100% of the sale to the museum. Artists who choose to donate 100% of the sale will receive acknowledgment of the donation in the art auction catalog and free membership at the family level.
The other event, Big Names Small Art (BNSA), features a silent auction of small-scale pieces that are all 12 x 12 inches or smaller. The fast and friendly competition starts all auctions at $25, regardless of the market value of the artwork.
The silent auction and the BNSA will be held virtually on Bidsquare. Auctions are expected to open in mid-May and close the weekend of June 4-5. A small selection of works will be featured at a socially distanced live art auction at the museum on Saturday, June 4.
All proceeds from BNSA sales will benefit Crocker’s educational programs and exhibits. Artists must be 18 or older to participate. The deadline for submission is February 28. “Imagine Picasso” debuted in the United States on February 9 in San Francisco.
This immersive multimedia experience brings together over 200 of Picasso’s greatest works as they are projected onto the walls accompanied by music to bring the artwork to life like never before.
A similar experience, “Beyond Van Gogh” will stop in Sacramento. Occupying over 30,000 square feet, the exhibition gives visitors the opportunity to feel like they have stepped inside one of Van Gogh’s paintings as some of his most beloved and well-known paintings are projected on walls and floors. Over 300 of Van Gogh’s finest works come to life when set to original sheet music as the artwork comes to life by disappearing, appearing and flowing across multiple surfaces.
